The Better Fabric Care Guide
Denim
Denim is a classic woven fabric: most often cotton, sometimes blended, always timeless. At Everlane, you’ll find it in three main forms, ranging from 11-13.75 oz: rigid, low-stretch and high-stretch, depending on the level of stretch content (and how much you wanna be hugged in). For the denim purists, we also make selvedge denim, woven on vintage shuttle looms with a clean finished edge and considered the pinnacle of premium denim.

Denim

                  Rigid
Zero stretch and usually 100% cotton (or cotton blends without elastane) that softens with wear. Break-in happens fast: one to three wears and they’re officially molded to your liking.

                  Low-Stretch
A touch of elastane (under 5%) for just a little give. Also called “comfort stretch,” it moves with you without losing that denim feel. It relaxes over time, but never gets slouchy.

                  High-Stretch
Packed with elastane designed for superior stretch and recovery. Think sleek, sculpted, and reliable. They hold their shape wear after wear.

                  Selvedge
Woven on vintage looms, finished with a signature colored edge, and considered premium for a reason. Rare, precise, and slow to make—but worth the wait.

              Why Ours Is Better
Our denim has everything you want and nothing you don’t. We start with premium, certified cotton and partner with some of the cleanest factories in the world who use less water, energy, and dyes while ensuring safe, fair conditions for workers.
Our core fabrications include organic cotton, regenerative cotton, and blends with TENCEL™ lyocell. With premium-weight cotton and reinforced construction techniques, the more you wear our jeans, the more beautifully they wear in—extending their lifespan and giving them more lives before they ever need replacing.
Premium cotton, cleaner dyes, and responsible factories don’t just make better denim—they make denim that’s better for you. Your butt would agree.
How to Care for It
1. Only Wash When Needed
Consider washing denim after every 10-or-so wears. Washing less not only helps preserve color, it also saves on water and energy—and frees up space in your hamper.
2. When It’s Time to Wash
First, turn inside out to preserve dye saturation, and only wash with similar colors.
3. Use Cold Water on a Gentle Cycle
Nearly 90% of the energy used in laundry comes from heating water, so cold saves energy while keeping denim from shrinking or fading.
4. Lay Flat to Dry
Air drying skips the energy use of a tumble dryer, reduces microfiber shedding, and helps your denim maintain its shape.

              How to Repair It
The more you wear your denim, the better it looks—which can also mean a little natural wear and tear.
Tend to rips or holes with hand embroidery or an iron-on patch added, or take them to a trusted repair professional.
Every fix keeps your jeans in play longer, which is good news for your closet and the planet, since the cleanest denim is the pair you already own.
