We can’t seem to stay away from Tuscany for long. It’s a region known for its natural beauty, high art, Chianti, and shoemaking prowess. And, lucky for us, that prowess includes crafting insanely comfortable sandals.
How We Found It
The Italian shoe industry still largely operates through personal connections and word-of-mouth recommendations. So when we asked our shoe partner if he knew any small-batch sandal specialists, we were directed to Claudio’s family-owned business in Montopoli in Val d’Arno. Q. Elle has just nine employees, but don’t let that number fool you. Each worker has been honing his or her craft for roughly 25 years. (Talk about small but mighty.)
The Materials
To be honest, comfortable sandals are hard to come by these days—which is why we decided to defy the standard. Our Day Sandals are made with buttery-soft Italian leather and a rubber outsole that flexes with every step. When combined, these components do what our Day Family does best: fits your foot like a glove.
About the Owner
The son of a shoemaker, Claudio sought to follow in his father’s footsteps by opening a factory focused on top-quality craftsmanship. In 2008, he met with our long-time partner in Italy, and the two bonded over their shared vision. They then banded together to open shop and make handcrafted Italian sandals from high-quality materials—which is something we could obviously get behind.
