Amber Lee

Musician / Entrepreneur

Born and raised in Canada, with a short-lived stint in the Netherlands, Lee has now put down her roots in New York City. When she's not making music for Amber and The Little Criminals, blogging, tweeting or working on her start-up Join Bklyn, she's hanging out with her girlfriend and walking her dog, Stevie Nicks.

“When I'm onstage I like to stick to my three staples: skinny jeans, button downs and oxfords.”

Tell us about Join Bklyn.

Well, it was created to be a portal to great content. Together with our curators, we scan the web for awesome blogs, with great design, from various cultural categories—be it food, film, design, music, art, photo or fashion. We want to expose great talent from across the web.

So, word is you grew up playing hockey like a good Canadian?

Yeah, I was a huge jock and hockey was my main obsession. I had the pleasure of playing with some of the greatest female players in the world. But after years of traveling and playing everyday, I was looking for a break. I retired my competitive edge, focused on the "beer" leagues and turned to music as my main outlet.

That seems like a pretty big departure, no?

Not really, because music has always been a huge part of my life; I grew up in the indie music scene, frequenting dive bars to see my favorite punk/hardcore/emo bands. It took a while for me to find my voice, but once I started writing, I couldn't stop. And now, I'm here in New York City playing with my band.

What’s your easy go-to outfit on stage?

I like to stick to my three staples: skinny jeans, button downs and oxfords.

Who would you say is a stylish influencer of our times?

George Clooney. He's talented, charming and always smiling. Plus he's got some serious sex appeal and can rock a suit.
